Lesson on Datalogger
Hi!
Today what we did was to pluck out our Singapore sunflower leaves for an experiment. Firstly, we placed a blue- tack on each corner of the leaf. After sticking the blue-tack onto the leaf, we stuck the leaf tightly into the bottle. We then switched on the torchlight and shone it on the leaf. We also set the datalogger to 30 minutes and the datalogger started capturing the information. After 30 minutes, I observed that the amount of carbon dioxide was decreasing. I concluded that the leaf was taking up the carbon dioxide as photosynthesis wastaking place. Photosynthesis is a process where carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll and light energy are changed into glucose. The aim of the experiment is to investigate if carbon dioxide is used by the leaf during photosynthesis. The apparatus we used were a datalogger, a bottle and a torchlight. Back to my sunflower, knowledge of the growth, Every seed is a tiny plant . Seeds need air, warmth and water to germinate and grow. The seed also contains a short-term food supply called endosperm or seed leaves. The first root is known as the radicle. It will poke through the seed coat grows downwards. The roots absorb water and nutrients needed for the9 growth of the seed. The seedling gets its food from the seed leaves. It cannot make its own food yet. The shoot that appears will make its own food only after its true leaves develop. My Taiwan sunflower grew 18 cm and has 13 leaves. My Singapore Sunflower grew 24cm and has 12 leaves.

Observation on our PBL
We predicted that our roses and carnations would green and blue. Our prediction was true. We don't think it is as sucessful as what we thought, as the colours we had chosen was not good. The blue was very dark while the green was too light. We thought it will be dark green. We should have chosen red and blue instead.
Good thing we had one more spare rose and carnation, we did a mixed colour experiment on them. The colour that came out was green and not blue as we added more green then blue.
We hope our sunflower will grow well! :)
Justin hopes that the sunflower will be eaten by birds.
